This year City Schoolyard Garden partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to host our one-week camp. In the Buford garden the students helped dig new garden beds, designed a camp banner, saved seeds from our radishes and hollyhocks, and harvested tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, and bush beans to make hors d’oeuvres for lunch each day. Over the course of the week we also made pizzas with Jim Winecoff at Mona Lisa Pasta, designed and decorated t-shirts with local artist Hannah Barefoot, and toured Open Gate Farm with Farmer Tom Ward. We finished the week with a booth at the Saturday Farmer’s Market where we handed out seed packets and showed off fresh sunflowers, tomatoes, and zucchini from the garden.
Thanks so much to our wonderful volunteer Leah Gable for helping out all this week!
Thanks to Jim, Hannah, and Tom for sharing your skills with the students!
and… Thanks to Rebecca Hengstler and the wonderful staff at the Boys and Girls Club for supporting the camp throughout the week!
